Another LEGEND Passes On...

EARTHA KITT
1927-2008
Eartha Kitt, the self-proclaimed "Sex Kitten" whose sultry voice and catlike purr attracted fans even as she neared 80, has died. The singer, dancer and actress was 81. Kitt, who was recently treated at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, died Thursday in Connecticut of colon cancer.

Dubbed the "most exciting woman in the world" by Orson Welles, Kitt's career spanned six decades, from her start as a dancer with the famed Katherine Dunham troupe to cabarets and acting and singing on stage, in movies and on television. She won two Emmys, and was also nominated for several Tonys and two Grammys.

She persevered through an unhappy childhood as a mixed-race daughter of the South, and made headlines in the 1960s for denouncing the Vietnam War during a visit to the White House. Eartha Kitt was a pioneer, whose talents were so immense and strong that the walls of segregation began to come down when people watched her perform. Many places she performed, she was the first African-American allowed to perform.

Kitt was born in North, S.C., and her road to fame was the stuff of storybooks. In her autobiography, she wrote that her mother was black and Cherokee while her father was white, and she was left to live with relatives after her mother's new husband objected to taking in a mixed-race girl.
An aunt eventually brought her to live in New York, where she attended the High School of Performing Arts, later dropping out to take various odd jobs.

By chance, she dropped by an audition for the dance group run by Dunham, a pioneering African-American dancer. In 1946, Kitt was one of the Sans-Souci Singers in Dunham's Broadway production "Bal Negre."
Kitt's travels with the Dunham troupe landed her a gig in a Paris nightclub in the early 1950s. Kitt was spotted by Welles, who cast her in his Paris stage production of "Faust." That led to a role in "New Faces of 1952," which featured such other stars-to-be as Carol Lawrence, Paul Lynde and, as a writer, Mel Brooks.
In 1960, she married Bill McDonald but divorced him after the birth of their daughter, Kitt.

While on stage, she was daringly sexy and always flirtatious. Offstage, however, Kitt described herself as shy and almost reclusive, remnants of feeling unwanted and unloved as a child. She referred to herself as "that little urchin cotton-picker from the South, Eartha Mae."
Im NOT going to even SAY Who is being Tapped to STAR as The Acclaimed Eartha Kitt in the Big-Screen adaptation of her Life, and RISE to STARDOM.

Take TWO Guesses, and its NOT the One Who actually DESERVES the Opportunity.

May The Inauguration Commence...

REASON #52 Why I Get Into Barack....

On January 20, 2009, President Elect, Barack Obama, will be sworn in as the Official 44th President of The United States of America.

ABOVE

The ONLY thing SEXIER than an Older, Black Man with POWER, is an Older, Black Man with POWER and ABS.

Sin.Sational!
On the night of the Inaugural Ceremony, Legendary, R&B Soul Diva, Dionne Warwick, alongside Rap/Hip-Hip impressario, LudaChris Bridges, will Chair and Host the American Music Inaugural Balls.

With an upward expectation of 6,000 Guests in Attendance, both Balls will take place at The Marriot Wardman Park of Washington, DC.

Dionne's soiree; The Legends Ball, will be presented in the Marriot's Ballroom, and will be co-hosted by the incomprable, Yolanda Adams. Accordingly, Chaka Khan, Marvin Sapp, The Temptations, Kirk Franklin and other industry Greats will take center stage in Honor of Barack Obama and his historical WIN.

LudaChris is presenting The Urban Ball, which will be held at The Thurgood Marshall Ballroom. Co-Hosted by Big Boi of Grammy Award Winning duo, OutKast, artists such as TPain, Cedric The Entertainer, Fantasia, Lil Jon, Monica and Bobby Valentino will perform before a Live audience.

As an upwards of FOUR MILLION people from across the country are expected to be on hand when Chicago Senator, Barack Obama, takes office on January 20th, The Legendary QUEEN OF SOUL herself, ARETHA FRANKLIN has been helmed to serenade the event.

I am SO ELATED, as for a second, I ASSUMED they were going to allow Beyonce or someone else of her contemporary stature to take the Vocal Honors. I was so HOPING that there would be an executive in charge of the festivities who would book an artist of True Iconic status to accompany the prolific essence of January 20th's celebration.

...and BEFORE the Beyonce Hags, Stans, and Psycho Fans start leaving their Rude, Inarticulate comments on MY page, and in MY Email Inbox, please KNOW and UNDERSTAND that there is a time for Beyonce to perform [American Music Awards] and a time for someone of Aretha's calibur to take the reigns [The Presidential Inauguration]. By NO means am I saying that Beyonce CAN'T 'Sing'. Im merely stating the FACT that Aretha, Patti, Gladys, Chaka, etc. are better suited. IF you DONT understand WHY I say so...

...and HAVE you all HEARD that Oprah's Obsession over Barack has gotten so OUT-OF-TOTAL-CONTROL that she is NOW considering purchasing a 50 Million Dollar Mansion in Georgetown, as to be CLOSER to the White House?

MICHELLE better keep her Right Eye Cut at the O. HMPH!

The HIV Epidemic & Its Effect On Black Women

For years, MANY have labeled HIV as the 'HomoSexual' disease. Accordingly, MANY OTHERS have illustrated a Universal View of how HIV looks, in determining who has contracted the disease, and exactly who is living with it.

As 85% of my Lifelong Friends are BLACK WOMEN, I am honestly ALARMED and AFRAID for their well-being; as the most recent statistics state that Black Women represent 66% of new HIV/AIDS cases among Women globally, and 74% of Black Women contract HIV/AIDS from HeteroSexual intercourse. Part of what's staggering is that most Americans, including young women, and young Black women in particular, are unaware of these facts.

How we've reached this point here in the United States is the result of neglect in recognizing who's really at risk in this country. While 46% of Gay, Black Men are infected with HIV, the disease does not stem from or strictly effect Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual and Transgender people.
Part of what's so shocking is the disproportionate increase in rates, and specifically among Black women, such that it leads to death.

Over the past few years, a wopping 53% of Black women who were surveyed claim that they believe there does exist a cure for the HIV virus. However, many of them are also convinced that the cure is being withheld from the lower-middle class and poor. As of right now, ATRIPLA; the one-pill treatment, is being used across the spectrum, and is working for nearly 85% of all HIV/AIDS patients. However, just as with many HARD DRUGS, the pill can cause both Liver and Kidney failure, and is not allowed to be used by pregnant, expecting mothers.

I feel that as a society who relies HEAVILY upon aesthetic, image and surface appeal in making prominent, lifelong decisions, too many of us have become comfortable with the notion of categorization. Whether it exists along the lines of Race, Class, Gender or Sexuality, a large sanction of society LOOKS for specific 'SIGNS' that will identify and differentiate between those who are HEALTHY and those who are Not[Infected]. Everyone who is infected with HIV/AIDS does not have sunken eyes or pronounced cheekbones, as the result of fat tissue loss. This EPIDEMIC that is wiping through the Black community, is doing so, SILENTLY. There are very FEW Public Awareness Campaigns that are geared towards Black Women, which encourage HIV Testing and Safe-Sex.

Living with HIV/AIDS can be an Isolating experience for ANYONE, despite their economic, social or cultural backgrounds. It's extremely IMPORTANT that we rally around our SISTERS, young and old, in keeping them Informed, Educated and Protected, as BEST we can. We NEED our Black Women in order to continue the Power and Legacy that exists throughout the Village.

Lift Every Voice...

In my high school yearbook, the quote that rests beneath my Senior Photo is a message that hung in my household everyday of my young life. It's a message shared by the Honorable and Highly Regarded, MARCUS GARVEY. It's a Lesson I Learned, Absorbed and Follow in the Darkest Hours of Doubt....
'With No Confidence in Self, One is Twice Defeated'

Photobucket
They didnt Want to give us 40 Acres and a Mule,
so instead,
We Took 50 States and The White House.

May the Lives, Sacrifice, Trials and Tribulations of Garvey, Sojourner Truth, Nat Turner, Phyllis Wheatley, Frederick Douglass and those of Nameless and Faceless identity, continue to be held as the BluePrint of Struggle...leading to Today's TRIUMPH.

May we forge forward with a level of RESPONSIBILITY, in aiding Barack Obama in his mission to restore the economic warfare and degradation of this Country. May we hold OURSELVES as accountable for our own Decisions, as we hold Obama accountable for the ones he makes on our behalf. May we NOT sit idle in a mode of complacency and uncomfortable comfort, engaged in the anxiety of what will 'CHANGE' and be 'REARRANGED' in the next years to come. CHANGE does not ignite from the Hiring of One Man to a controlled, political office. CHANGE ignites from the POWER and PRESTIGE of a PEOPLE who are willing to take the necessary steps in following the PLAN. The PLAN is presently Unknown. Still, in accordance with the Force and Fortune of Nature, Humanity and ALL that encompasses Faith, each day belongs to the INDIVIDUAL who lives through it.

VICTORY is WON.

The TRUE Living *LEGEND*

LEGENDARY QUEEN: ZaKiya TorKwase Lumumba
(Prince Xem's Mother)
October 18, 2007
~This is HOW a 55 Year Old Woman is 'SUPPOSE' to Reign on Her BIRTHDAY~
*SUPREME*

I am Tearing Up as I Write this, for it is upon the back of this Woman that I stand to Achieve, Maintain Faith to Believe, and Operate Daily with Confidence and a High Level of Self Esteem. LEGENDS are Spoken of in Many facets; few for which it Stands, Infinitely and Realistically. Zakiya Lumumba; The Mother of All Mothers, is a Woman Who has Sacrificed ALL of her Wants, for MANY of My Needs. She Reigns above the Standards of Grace, Poise, Decorum and Sophistication. She is a LEGEND in due part to her Struggles. For those of You Who Know Her; MANY of My Lifelong Friends and Close Associates, in accordance, will AGREE...

Zakiya is One of the Most Giving, Loyal, Loving and Nurturing Human Beings Who has ever Left Foot Prints upon the Soils of Our Domain. She is the Epiphany of Promise, and the Prelude to Hope. My Mother is a Woman Who went to bed some nights, eating PopCorn, as so Nyasha and I could LITERALLY eat Steak. My Mother is a Woman Who Never took a Lunch Break at work, for two years straight, as so She could Pick Nyasha and I up from School and take us Home at 2:30pm; as so we would Not have to attend the Afterschool Program that we did Not Enjoy. My Mother is a Woman Who held Me in One of the Darkest Hours of My Life; circa January, 2003; a Turning Point in My Adulthood...a Willingness to be Open and Free with My Family. She is a Woman of Courage and of Strength, who Gave to US what We Never knew she had; who has Shared her Teachings and Guidance in Spirituality, Good Will, Prayer, Focus and Stride.

Zakiya is a LEGEND, for she Symbolizes the True Essence of a Woman, Who Honors Motherhood. In My Lifetime, it has partially, and yet, predominately been My Mother Who has allowed Me to Wear this Prince Crown. Ive ALWAYS been Treated as Royalty in the Lumumba Household, and have Never known what it is to Face the Cold World, without Warm, Angels Wings, Holding My Head High, and My Heart Tight. To Label Zakiya a LIVING LEGEND, in itself, is a mere Title of Humbled Calibur. This is the Woman Who has Taught Me to Love, and Shown Me to Express it, In Depth, and Innately.

I GIVE to her, EVERYTHING I AM; for She is the TRUE LOVE of My Life; My Teacher, My Friend, My Confidence, My Mother Supreme*

Reign On...My QUEEN!~
